Introduction to the SpaceOAR Hands-on Training Workshop

SGH Urology Week 2025 | Thursday, 23rd October 2025

As part of SGH Urology Week 2025, we are pleased to present the SpaceOAR Hands-on Training Workshop, a focused educational event designed to equip participants with essential knowledge and foundational technical skills for the safe and effective use of peri-rectal spacers in prostate cancer care. This workshop will be held on Thursday, 23rd October 2025, and is aimed at urologists, radiation oncologists, and allied healthcare professionals involved in prostate cancer management.

The workshop begins with an overview of the clinical rationale and current evidence supporting the use of peri-rectal spacers, specifically the SpaceOAR hydrogel, in men undergoing radical radiotherapy for prostate cancer. This innovative approach has been shown to significantly reduce radiation-induced rectal toxicity, thereby enhancing patient safety and quality of life.

Participants will benefit from a well-structured program combining comprehensive didactic lectures, stimulator-based hands-on training provided in collaboration with our industry partner, Boston Scientific, and live surgical demonstrations with expert-led case discussions.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will gain an in-depth understanding of the indications, benefits, and technique of peri-rectal spacer injection. Importantly, they will acquire basic procedural competency, forming the critical first step toward independent practice under proctorship.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Live Case Demonstration

  • Didactic Lectures by Team of Experts – Urologists and Radiation Oncologists

  • Hands-on Simulator Training • Certificate of Attendance
